Valentina Auricchio & Marta Corubolo outline the way to Service Design Tools

Valentina Auricchio & Marta Corubolo opened this morning the second module of the didactic path, Service Design Tools Basics: three days of lectures intended to introduce the history and evolution of design methods and tools, focusing on specific methods and techniques that are typically adopted in the practice of service design.

The lessons will be a mix of theoretical grounding and practical activities. Exercises will integrate the theory and the tools will be applied in a “reverse engineering” mode: students will analyze existing services and represent them through the use of the proposed tools. This will allow a deep understanding of the tools to be employed in future project development.

Professors will introduce tools that enable and facilitate the design of intangible elements of the service and their visualization, as well as participatory approach tools. Moreover, the need to design and adapt existing tools according to specific contexts will not be excluded. During these three days, different tools will be addressed, such as: Offering map, Stakeholder map, System map, Storyboard, Personas, Journey map, Service Blueprint (back/front-office) and Desktop walkthrough.

By the end of the module, students will acquire the role of tools in the design process, select and use these tools according to project requirements and project context.
