Diving into Design & Ethics with Peter Gall Krogh
Last Thursday’s Masterclass with Peter Gall Krogh explored the intersection of design and ethics. Peter, a professor at Aarhus University and associated with Politecnico di Milano, emphasized that design is inherently connected to ethics, but it is often unclear how they are connected and how we articulate that connection. The masterclass aimed to address this gap by providing participants with an opportunity to reflect on and discuss the connection between ethics and design.
One key takeaway was that ethics are never solid; they are negotiated, and the negotiation process can be shaped by culture. He also discussed the challenge of balancing ethics with commercial considerations and provided insights into ethics beyond the Eurocentric perspective.
Participants engaged in a series of exercises, including imagining hypothetical scenarios, considering the emotions of key stakeholders, and discussing design dilemmas and ethics using various concepts such as situational ethics, value levers, and micro/macro-ethics, providing some interesting reflections.
Don’t forget to join us for our last Masterclass of 2023 with Giulio Quaggiotto on April 14th!
