From Data to Meaning: Concluding the Data Analysis & Visualization Module

Today’s session marked the conclusion of the Data Analysis & Visualization lectures, led by Paolo Ciuccarelli and Alessandra Facchin. The day was divided into two parts: in the morning, students explored visual variables, graphic patterns, and existing formats, while also reflecting on the importance of neutrality and autonomy in data representation. The lesson highlighted how the way data is interpreted and communicated can influence decisions and perception, emphasizing the importance of balancing context, message, and engagement for effective design.

In the afternoon, theoretical concepts were put into practice through design experiments. Students worked with datasets of their choice, focusing on both qualitative and quantitative analysis and visualization. Attention was placed not only on data processing skills but also on the creativity applied in communicating information, moving from analysis to expressive and narrative dimensions. The session concluded with group presentations, followed by a collective discussion on current research challenges and future directions in the field.
