Wrapping Up the Fundamentals of Service Design

Beatrice Villari concludes the first module with a final overview of the basics of Service Design. This module introduced students to the fundamental theories and key concepts of Service Design, service innovation, and the related design process.

Through lectures, discussions, and case studies, students explored the history, definitions, and key terminology of the field, understanding the essential phases of designing an effective service.

During the lesson, students examined real-world examples of how Service Design can be integrated into projects for digital companies, institutions, NGOs, and businesses that produce consumer goods or physical products. This approach highlights the shift towards a service economy and the service-dominant logic.

This year, the module was enriched by a contribution from Riccardo Torta, a researcher at Politecnico di Milano, who presented the UNSEE project. This initiative explores the intersections between design, technology, and society, aiming to investigate how design can tackle emerging social challenges, opening new pathways for the future of Service Design.
